Everton Win Dulls Cozy Klopp Farewell
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp is bound to have a few sleepless nights over the end of the season after his team endured a shocking 2-0 defeat to Everton on Wednesday night, 24 April.
The Reds started the English Premier League (EPL) 2023/24 season with immense promise, but their last few matches have seen a noticeable trend of mediocre performances; they have won only two of their previous five matches.
The Everton meeting was especially embarrassing, as the last time the Toffees beat their Merseyside neighbours was in 2010, ending more than a decade of bad juju for the Goodison Park hosts, and further distancing Klopp’s men from league glory.
In the post-match interview, a deflated Klopp said: “We have to look [at ourselves] in the mirror, we have to be really critical of ourselves … We were not good enough.”
Liverpool were knocked out of the Europa League and Football Association Cup recently, effectively ending their dreams for quadruple silverware.
Arsenal are currently at the top of the EPL table with 77 points, while Liverpool is in second place with 74, a mere point above Manchester City who won the title last season.
